The best Mielle Organics hair products to know, beyond their viral rosemary oil

The affordable brand has become my go-to recommendation for curls and coilsBY ELENA CHABOPUBLISHED: 26 OCTOBER 2023

You probably know Mielle Organics from their viral rosemary and mint hair oil, but the Black-founded brand has so much more to offer. It’s been a bit of a game-changer for me. The recommendation I get asked for most is for curly and afro hair products. And, to be honest, I’ve always struggled.

I can pick out lots of individual products I love across brands, and I’m lucky enough to have access to so many higher-end products through my job or small brands that have higher costs and are reflected in the price. While I’ll always champion Black-owned indy brands, when a stressed mum asks me what to use for her daughter’s hair, I’m maybe not going to recommend a £28 hair cream or rattle off a list of products across different brands.

On the other hand, for me personally, the more popular (affordable) drugstore hair brands for Black hair don’t agree with my hair. And so, I felt a bit useless regarding a quick trusty recommendation. I would usually suggest trying a hair subscription box like Treasure Tress to get products to try every month (at discounted prices) to find what you like.

But I would like to publicly thank Mielle Organics for becoming my first real go-to hair recommendation for all scenarios; I’ve yet to try a product I don’t like, everything is £5-£15, and you can get it at your local high street in Superdrug. What’s not to love?

Whether you’ve tried Mielle Organics before or are a total newbie, I’ve rounded up the best products to buy from the range.

Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil

Viral Rosemary Oil

The viral rosemary oil started one of the biggest digi beauty crazes we’ve ever witnessed, as users swore by it for hair growth and condition, and it really is a spectacular product.

It’s not just for scalp and growth, I use this to nourish my ends, seal in my curly leave-in products, and help smooth and de-frizz when my hair is straight.

Rosemary is just one factor in this baby, it’s packed with biotin (a top ingredient for promoting hair growth) and over 30 essential oils and extracts including mint, lavender, tea tree and eucalyptus.

Firstly, this is worth it for the smell alone. It smells insanely good and delivers a calming wave of energy that feels well beyond your ‘everything shower‘. Did I just do an hour-long guided meditation? No, I had this in for 15 mins.

This deep conditioner is refreshingly tingly on the scalp and leaves parched hair feeling soft and rescued when it needs that extra dose of love.

If you don’t get along great with refresher sprays, pay attention. This is designed as a spray-on leave-in conditioner, with instructions to saturate every strand to condition the cuticle I use it that way too, but I love it as a refresher spray for days two and three.

I sometimes spritz with a little water before too, but I love being able to condition without disturbing my curls like I would topping up with a non-spray leave-in.

Ok, so, I could add; ‘It smells amazing’ to the pros of every Mielle product, but this one? This one gets me stopped, and has people asking ‘Who smells so good?’.

It can be used over the top of a leave-in conditioner or by itself, depending on your hair’s needs, as this nourishing cream is plenty hydrating as well as helping create gorgeous defined curls.

This mint and almond oil comes in a nice big 240ml bottle and is a lightweight, protein-packed product that can be applied to wet or dry hair, leaving your stands feeling nourished and protected from breakage.

And can you guess? It smells really good.

This bad boy means business. It’s perfect for deep and decadent conditioning for coily afro hair, as well as an unbeatable slip for detangling. And the shine? Thank me later.

If your hair is looser curls go easy on this as too much might overload your hair, but on those parched days? This is great for you too.

Targeting growth from both ends (literally), this masque stimulates growth at the root with rosemary and biotin, as well as retaining length by combatting breakage.

Its nourishing ingredients include mentha oil, honey, and coconut oil – it’s basically edible.

If you haven’t heard of using rice water for hair health and growth, you probably will soon. It’s trending but it’s actually a generational tradition in many Black households.
